Weddings

A wedding is an act of worship and a joyful celebration of faith in God, who has created us to live in loving relationships.  At Davis Community Church we welcome couples who wish to be married.  We consider it an honor to work with you at this important time of transition in your life.

Some things you should know about weddings at DCC:

  • Our pastors officiate at weddings at DCC and follow a Presbyterian (PCUSA) order of worship. If you have a pastor who is a relative or friend that you would like to include in the service, our pastors will do their best to include that person in the service.
  • We request that couples complete pre-marital counseling or retreat weekend about three months prior to your wedding and provide a letter of completion.
  • The first step is simply to reserve the date on the church calendar and with the pastor who will officiate at your service.  Please contact Julie Herdt ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) for an application and brochure which includes a rather modest fee schedule.
  • Weddings are not scheduled during the week prior to Easter, Christmas or New Years or over the Thanksgiving holiday.  Weddings are scheduled after 1 p.m. on Saturdays due to the Farmers Market in the park across the street from the church.  On Sundays, weddings are scheduled after 2 p.m.
  • We have a Wedding Coordinator who will assist you with planning the details of your service and can answer any questions you have about weddings at DCC.  Feel free to contact Elizabeth Andrea ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), who serves as the coodinator for most weddings.
  • The Fellowship Hall is available for receptions.  You should be aware, however, that no smoking is allowed and no alcohol may be served on the DCC campus.

We wish you the blessings of family and loving kindness as you go forward in your life together.

Memorials

Planning for a memorial service - whether your own or a service for a loved one - can feel daunting. This guide to Planning a Memorial Service is intended to assist you in planning.

The guide begins with this lovely affirmation of faith in a time of loss:

"The resurrection is a central doctrine of the Christian faith and shapes Christians' attitudes and responses to the event of death. Death brings loss, sorrow, and grief to all. In the face of death Christians affirm with tears and joy the hope of the gospel. Christians do not bear bereavement in isolation but are sustained by the power of the Spirit and the community of faith. The Church offers a ministry of love and hope to all who grieve."

The guide includes information from the PC(USA) Book of Order, suggested New and Old Testament readings and hymns.  It is a great place to begin planning a memorial service.  A Davis Community Church pastor will, of course, be happy to meet with you and assist you in planning for a service and reception following the service.
