boys

Children are an integral part of our community at Davis Community Church. We seek to learn from their sense of wonder and be enlivened by their joy and enthusiasm. We nurture and care for their spiritual growth through the whole life of DCC, specifically through our Children's Ministry.

Sunday Morning Schedule for Children, Fall-Spring

Worship, Sundays 8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
(Summer Schedule: 9 &10:30 a.m.)

All children are encouraged to join us for Sunday morning worship. Children, their joyful noise, crayons, and Cheerios, are all welcome in our Sanctuary! Children in Kindergarten through Third Grade are invited to come to our Children's Chapel during the sermon portion of the worship service.

Children's Chapel

Our Children's Chapel is a wonderful program designed to provide children with their own age-appropriate worship experience as well as equip children to participate in the worship of the larger church. Children's Chapel is designed around a simple worship ritual, includes a small lesson, and a surprise to take home. Note: During the summer, Children's Chapel will be offered at the 10:30 AM service.

Child Care

We offer high quality nursery care for children ages Zero to Four during the worship services and nursery care for children through age Two during the Christian Formation Hour.

Sunday School, Sundays, 9:45 a.m.

We offer Sunday School classes for all ages. We use an ecumenical, lectionary based curriculum, Seasons of the Spirit, which we chose in order to help us better integrate Sunday School with our worship services. The lesson for Sunday School comes from the same scripture text used in worship that day, enabling family conversations about a Bible story. Our Sunday school program includes a music component, Sunday Sing!, service projects, and a variety of activies to engage the lesson. We have wonderful classes got parents during this hour as well!

Starting September 19:  Sunday Morning Formation Offerings for Fall

“A Multitude of Blessings: A Christian Approach to Religious Diversity”

Facilitated by Rev. Kristin Stoneking, Campus Minister at UC Davis
This class will discuss what it is to live as a Christian in our Multi-Faith context. An ordained United Methodist minister, Rev. Kristin Stoneking serves as Campus Minister and Director at the Cal Aggie Christian Association, a ministry of Davis Community Church.  She is also the founder of its Multifaith Living Community. Currently a Ph.D. student at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA focusing on faith formation of young adults in pluralistic environments, Kristin is a regular guest lecturer at Pacific School of Religion and has presented nationally and internationally on campus ministry and the Multifaith Living Community model.

The Gospel of Mark: Chapters 11-16
Facilitated by Jim Goss
This nine week class will explore the passion story in Mark where the author invents a last "holy week" for the ministry of Jesus to prepare those in his community for facing their own persecutions and sufferings following the war with Rome in 66-70 C.E. and prior to what Mark believed would be the last decade before the end of the world.  The first session will review the main themes of the first 10 chapters so one need not have attended previous classes to participate in this study.

Gandhi Now

Facilitated by Vicky Powers, Nadene Donner, and Carol Stedronsky
How does Mahatma (Mahondas) Gandhi's message relate to us in the twenty-first century and how does this lead us to respond to his teachings and his hopes for humankind?

Come explore the life of Gandhi from the perspective of his grandson.  Read  from Gandhi's own teachings and wisdom and discover how you resonate with his message through art and your original written word.  We will be sharing our work in our newly launched "art gallery" in the coffee gathering area of the Sanctuary in the weeks following the class.  This experience will culminate with the visit from Rajmohan Gandhi at  Davis Community Church on October 24th.

At DCC we welcome families of all descriptions into the life of the church.

  • You may be a single parent seeking Christian community for yourself and your children.
  • It may be that yours is a gay or lesbian family seeking a place where you will feel welcome and nurtured in your spiritual life.
  • Perhaps yours is a blended family that has come together following a marriage.
  • Your nest may be empty and you feel ready to go deeper in your spiritual life.
  •  It may be that yours is a multi-generational family with concerns for your teens as well as your aging parents, each with their own set of needs.
  •  It may be that yours is a traditional family and you are ready to explore spirituality in a Christian community.

Whatever your situation, we welcome your family and strive to provide a full experience of spirituality in worship, education, service, social justice and community - all grounded in the spirit of love in the life of Jesus, the Christ.
