Beloved of God, Let Us Love
(for more on what that means to us, see our vision and values statements)

Vision and Values Statements

Davis Community Church is a member of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, working for the mission and unity of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and seeking God's will in a time of faithful disagreement.

Vision Statements

The short version: "Beloved of God, let us love."

The long version:  "Davis Community Church is, and seeks to become more fully, a congregation of Christians growing as a community in our identities as beloved children of God and becoming beacons of that love in the world."

The REALLY long version:  Mary Lynn Tobin's September 12, 2004 sermon

Values

In joyous response to the gifts of grace and love that God has given us in Jesus Christ, and in reliance on the Holy Spirit and our understanding of the scriptures, Davis Community Church seeks to embody:

  • Love, for God, all God's people, and creation (Luke 10:27);
  • Inclusiveness, extending hospitality to all; welcoming all to full participation in our life and work; and celebrating our diversity across race, economic status, age, gender, disability, marital status, and sexual orientation (1 Corinthians 12:12; Hebrews 13:2);
  • Integrity, aligning our thoughts, words, and actions with the One to whom we belong (Proverbs 27:19 and Hebrews 4:12);
  • Engagement, using our minds and hearts to encounter and respond to God (Deuteronomy 6:4; Proverbs 22:17);
  • Trust, knowing God to be the first and the final Word and therefore having confidence in God and one another (Mark 4:35-41; 2 Corinthians 3:2-4);
  • Generosity, knowing that God has given us enough time, talents and money for all that we truly need, and sharing out of that abundance. (Mark 8:1-8);
  • Stewardship, caring responsibly and creatively for all that God has made and using all our resources prudently (Genesis 1:28-31);
  • Justice, following Christ by standing with the oppressed and working toward equity and shalom. (Matthew 25:31-46; Micah 6:8);
  • Discernment, seeking God's will in our personal and corporate decision-making (Luke 22:42);
  • Discipleship, inviting everyone to hear and be transformed by the good news that through Christ there is a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
