Worship

Our Worship Statement

Worship is the heart of Christian community, the primary gathering of the family of faith, the wellspring from which all congregational life flows. In worship, God invites all to praise their Creator, to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, and to be open to the transforming presence and power of the Holy Spirit. We are called into relationship with God and with each other and empowered to be faithful followers of Christ, beacons of God's love in the world.

Our worship is both rooted in tradition and open to newer forms of liturgical expression: we draw on traditions from earliest Christian communities through the time of the Reformation to current religious practices.

Our worship is inclusive: we welcome all people and celebrate the diversity of God's creation. Our worship is participatory: we are actively involved in all parts of the worship service. We engage our hearts and minds as we speak, sing, listen, reflect in silence, present our offerings, share in the sacraments of Baptism and Communion, and experience the presence of God.

Our worship is creative: we call upon the gifts of the people to express the mystery of God through music, the visual arts and drama. We strive for balance between the old and the new, the formal and the informal, the prophetic and the pastoral.

Our worship is a time of grace: we receive and express the unconditional love and acceptance of Jesus Christ. We experience great joy and great sorrow together. We accept people wherever they are on their faith journey. We find ways to make God's grace visible and real.

Our worship is transformational: it leads us into the world to proclaim God's grace and to serve as ministers of God's radical love and justice.

Summer Sunday Morning Worship Services

Worship services this summer are at 9:00 and 10:23 AM. The first service is a traditional Reformed worship service. Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month at the 9:00 service. The 10:23 service is an alternative worship service that gathers with music at 10:23 AM. Communion is served at every "10:23" service.

All ages are welcome in worship. We are intentional about intergenerational worship and church life. Childcare is available for infants and pre-schoolers. Children in kindergarten through third grade usually start the service and then after a short "Discovery Time" are welcome to go to "Activity Time" in the sanctuary classroom during the sermon or meditation. The children are supervised by a responsible adult while in "Activity Time." They will return to the sanctuary for the end of the service. Some kindergarten through 3rd graders choose to stay with their families during the sermon or meditation. Fourth graders and older are encouraged to remain in worship.
